Based on the original idea by author Michael Crichton and similar in some ways to the 1996 film TWISTER by Jan de Bint and starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton.
Kate Carter (Daisy Edgar-Jones) grew up in rural Oklahoma and developed a solution for dissipating tornadoes ("twisters"). With the support of five friends including Javi (Anthony Ramos), they try an experiment while storm chasing; however, the tornado in question was much stronger than envisaged and three of her friends lost their lives.
Fast forward five years from that fateful day and Kate has moved to New York City to work in safe surroundings, but as a meteorologist where she is considered an expert on extreme weather.
Javi tracks her down and convinces her to return to the mid-west to work with him and his new colleagues on a groundbreaking new tracking system to help people being affected by tornadoes. While there, as as the storm season intensifies, she comes across Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), an extrovert tornado chaser and reckless social-media superstar.
The pair and their respective teams compete against each other and they find themselves in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over the open plains, and a number of small towns, in what was to become the fight of their lives.
The cinematography and special effects are stunning, with great acting too, particularly by Daisy Edgar-Jones in the lead role, especially the on-screen chemistry between her character and Glen Powell's.
Currently being screened at Kinepolis in Luxembourg.
