The story of Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), an artist/performer driven to walk a tightrope spanning the twine towers of the World Trade Centre in Ney York City in 1974.
While the story itself is incredible, director Robert Zemeckis has co-written the screenplay adapted from the artist's own book "To Reach the Clouds". The storyline recalls his Parisian childhood and being mesmerised by the highwire act at the visiting circus and growing up having his mission to do something incredible. He sets out for New York City with some friends and visits the World Trade Centre as its construction is nearing completion. Together they plan the daring feat, fetauring disguises and scenarios.
With the character development now complete on screen, the day beckons and Philippe and his friends put his plan into action. What results is an incredible piece of cinema that will last long in the mind, such are the camerawork and special effects which make the audience feel up there, in the clouds, following each step of the 143 metres spanning the twin towers.
A gripping character-driven drama that also features Ben Kingsley as Philippe's mentor, Papa Rudy, and his girlfriend Annie (Charlotte Le Bon), that is right up there along with the director's other classic cinematic hits.
