On Saturday 26 February 2022, the France and Luxembourg co-production film "Le Sommet des Dieux" (The Summit of the Gods) has been crowned Best Animated Film at the 47th Césars, France's top film awards, in Paris.
Directed by Patrick Imbert and co-produced in Luxembourg by the company Mélusine Productions (Stéphan Roelants), the feature film "Le Sommet des Dieux" was adapted from the manga comic "The Summit of the Gods" by Jiro Taniguchi and Baku Yumemakura (based on a true story).
The cinematographic sense of the animated work has been thought out and refined in adavance, so that the 2D animation production is done in an optimised process. The rendering is kept sober, refined and realistic, keeping in with the artistic tradition of Japanese animation.
The production involved the work of 45 people on Luxembourg territory for more than eighteen months under the leadership of the Studio 352 team and in particular Denis Lambert (head of layout unit), Pascal Gérard (head of animation unit), Gilles Rudziak (head of animation unit), Anaëlle Brême (head of ink & paint unit), David Feraille (studio director) and Fabien Renelli (production director).
This co-production between Luxembourg and France had its world premiere at the last Cannes Film Festival and was released in theaters in September 2021 in Luxembourg.
After Ernest and Célestine in 2013, it is the second César won by the Luxembourg production company Mélusine Productions and the third for the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg with that won by the film Deux in 2021.
