On Friday 31 January 2025, the Association luxembourgeoise de la presse cinématographique (ALPC), the Luxembourg Film Critics Association, held its Annual General Meeting at which it confirmed that The Substance was its Film of the Year 2024.
In mid-December, association members were sent an exhaustive list of all films that had been released in Luxembourgish cinemas; they were invited to vote for their top five films from that year, from which a short-list of five films was compiled:
- Emilia Perez
- The Substance
- Die Ermittlung (The Investigation)
- The Zone of Interest
- Ferrari
Following a voting process at the AGM, it was The Substance that prevailed as the ALPC's Film of the Year 2024.
Synopsis: A fading celebrity takes a black-market drug: a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself.
The film has been nominated for five Oscars.
