The Luxembourg film production company Tarantula has announced that its co-production "January" is coming to cinema screens in the Grand Duchy this month; scheduled for release on Wednesday 19 January 2022.
Andrey Paounov is an award-winning documentary filmmaker from Bulgaria and "January" is his fiction feature directorial debut film.
The film, inspired by the eponymous play by Nobel Prize Nominee Yordan Radichko and interpreted by Mr Paounov, tells the story of five men stuck in a snowstorm. In the midst of winter, one morning, Petar Motorov headed to town in his sleigh but when the sleigh returns, the five men find only Motorov’s fur coat, his shotgun and the frozen carcass of a wolf. The five men then try to resolve the mystery and find what happened to Petar, a journey that slowly devours them.
The feature film benefited from support from the Luxembourg Film Fund, the Bulgarian National Film Centre and Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual Portugal.
The film is produced by Portokal (Bulgaria) and co-produced by Terratreme Filmes (Portugal) and Tarantula (Luxembourg).
The film is 110 minutes long; in Bulgarian with EN sub-titles.
