Film Fund Luxembourg has announced that two Luxembourgish co-productions, "Wolfwalkers" and "Deux", are in the running to win one of the most prestigious film and television awards in the United States: the Golden Globes.

The awards, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), will be given out at the 78th Golden Globes, taking place on 28 February 2021.

The animated feature film Wolfwalkers, directed by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart, was co-produced by Luxembourg's Mélusine Productions (Stéphan Roelants) and Ireland and has been nominated in the “Best Motion Picture - Animated” category.

The fictional feature film Deux (Two of us), directed by Filippo Meneghetti, was co-produced by Tarantula Luxembourg (Donato Rotunno and Elise André), France and Belgium and has been nominated in the category "Best Picture - Foreign Language" (representing France).

Wolfwalkers

Since its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2020, Wolfwalkers, adapted from an Irish tale, has been critically acclaimed and recognised with several international awards and nominations. Among others, the film won the prize for best animated film at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards and at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards.

Mélusine Productions produced two-thirds of the animation for Wolfwalkers as well as part of the layout and all of the colour sets for the film. The studio also worked on 3D modelling, colorisation and textures of the reference models.

Wolfwalkers mobilised the work of around 60 people on Luxembourgish territory for more than fifteen months of production. Most of them were from the historic Studio 352 team, which has had a remarkable number of internationally renowned animation productions over the past 24 years.

The film is currently in cinemas in Luxembourg (in English and French) and on the Apple TV+ platform. A Luxembourgish version is being dubbed and will be released later this year.

Deux (Two of us)

This Franco-Belgian-Luxembourgish comedy-drama had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and won dozens of international awards including the award for best first film and the award for best actress for Martine Chevalier and Barbara Sukowa, the fim's two main actresses, at the Lumières Awards 2021.

The film, a lesbian story, has been selected to represent France at the 2021 Oscars in the “Best Foreign Language Film” category.

Filming in Luxembourg took place in mid-October 2018 for 20 days. Among the Luxembourgish technicians and actors were Céline Bodson (sound operator), Angelo Dos Santos (sound editor), Vitalijus Kiselius (electrician), Magdalena Labuz (costumes), Katja Reinert (make-up manager) and Laurent Wallerang (chief machinist), as well as the actors Eugénie Anselin, Aude-Laurence Biver, Véronique Fauconnet, Denis Jousselin, Stéphane Robles, Gilles Soeder, Hervé Sogne and Jérôme Varanfrain.

The film was screened in Luxembourg in February 2020 and is now available on the new Luxembourgish streaming platform sooner.lu.
