The eighteenth edition of CinEast, the Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg, is set to take place from Friday 10 to Sunday 26 October 2025.
This year’s programme will feature over 100 screenings, including more than 65 feature films and 50 short films from over 20 countries of the former Eastern Bloc, shown across multiple venues in Luxembourg and beyond, including Ciné Utopia, Cercle Cité, Neimënster, Kinepolis Kirchberg, Ancien Cinéma (Vianden) and other partner locations. The festival will once again combine film with a wide range of special events, such as concerts, debates, photo exhibitions and gastronomy evenings, with content also available online via the CinEast Online Cinema platform.
The 2025 edition will put a special Focus on Poland, with a dedicated programme of feature films, documentaries and short films, as well as Polish guests, extended Q&A sessions, and a “Polish evening” combining cinema with gastronomy. The focus also includes concerts, notably a jazz performance by the Pawlik & Pawlik Duo featuring Jeff Herr, and the closing concert by Polish band Bubliczki.
In addition, five films by first- and second-time directors will compete for the Young Talents Award, judged by a student jury from the BTS Cinéma et audiovisuel of the Lycée des Arts et Métiers in Luxembourg. Around 35 special guests, including directors, actors and producers, are expected to meet audiences during Q&A sessions and ciné-debates throughout the festival.
The programme will also include a special section on Ukraine, with screenings and debates dedicated to the country, and a thematic cycle entitled “Disruptions” reflecting societal upheavals and technological change, accompanied by an extensive photo exhibition at Neimënster. Other highlights are concerts with Romania’s Fanfare Ciocărlia, Ukrainian jazz duo Misha Kalinin and Roksana Smirnova, and the Tony Lakatos Organ-ization, as well as Luxembourg co-productions showcased in the Lux Meets CEE section.
Further activities include youth screenings, ciné-debates on sustainability and women’s issues, a continuation of the CinEast4Ukraine charity initiative, and the annual CinEast Pro co-production meeting organised with the support of the Film Fund Luxembourg.
