Rock the South has announced its selection of newcomer artists set to perform at this year's music festival, taking place on Saturday 15 December 2018.

This year's chosen newcomers are the alternative-British rock band Drife, metalcore Legacy of Atlas, metal Snake Bite and melancholic rock, tip-hop Stelise.

The principle is simple: the Rock the South is a competition for amateur rock bands and mainly newcomers to the Luxembourg scene. Participation is subject to various conditions related to the residence and age of the participants. Racist, homophobic or sexist songs will be excluded from the concert and the duration of the stage performance is limited to 30 minutes. These 30 minutes will be enough to convince the public and show the personality of the artists to a jury composed of professionals and music lovers.

The jury will evaluate the performances and designate the winner who will win a Rocklab package worth €1,000 (stage rehearsals, musical advice, professional coaching, membership card) and a recording session at AUDEO audio-visual studio in Lamadelaine. The group will also be able to perform during the Rock the South 2019 edition. Another prize will be awarded by the SNJ (National Youth Service) and will give the group the opportunity to perform at the festival "On Stéitsch 2019".

Fallen Lies, winner of Rock the South 2017 will also be performing later in the evening, followed by the band Irina.

The competition is organised in collaboration with the SNJ, Rocklab of Rockhal, 7FM Luxembourg, Radio Ara and Péiteng On Air. Admission is free for all spectators.
