On Friday 23 October 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity (MECB) and the Nature and Forest Agency (ANF) launched a two-month public consultation on three action plans concerning invasive alien species.

The consultations cover: the main pathways for the introduction and spread of invasive alien species in Luxembourg; “Reynoutria sp” (Asian knotweed); “Vespa velutina” (Asian hornet).

EU Regulation No 1143/2014 on the prevention and management of the introduction and spread of invasive alien species provides the legal basis for European efforts to prevent and limit the ecological, economic and health impacts of biological invasions.

In accordance with Article 4 of the Law of 2 July 2018 concerning certain implementing measures and penalties under EU Regulation No 1143/2014, the draft action plans are available for consultation on the emwelt.lu and zesumme-vereinfachen.lu web pages.

In addition to the new draft action plans concerning the Asian hornet and Asian knotweed, the consultations cover a revised draft of the Action Plan on the Main Pathways for the Introduction and Spread of Invasive Alien Species in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (version 2.1 of 2 March 2026). The revised plan will update the initial version adopted in 2020.

Members of the public and all stakeholders are invited to review the documents and submit their comments and suggestions by 23 December 2026.

Following the consultations, the ministry will publish the final versions of the action plans on its website.
