On 14 October 2016, the newly constructed water purification station in Beringen was unveiled.

The inter-communal trade union SIDERO first considered the idea of modernising the original purification station in Beringen as part of its five-year plan as early as 1994. The original station dates back to 1969. The plans were in response to increasingly strict European water directives and criteria regarding the purity of water.

However, the biological purification station was only recently modernised with work beginning on in 2010. It aims to ensure the efficient and sustainable management of water and is predicted to serve 70,000 inhabitants until at least 2035. The project cost €40 million and has been financed by the five participating municipalities.
