Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade has reported that the traditional diplomatic conference took place last week.

At the invitation of Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, the heads of Luxembourg's diplomatic missions met in the Grand Duchy from Monday 12 to Thursday 15 May 2025, for this conference.

In his opening speech, Minister Bettel focused on major European and international affairs, as well as issues related to foreign trade, development cooperation policy and cross-border cooperation.

Moreover, the heads of diplomatic missions engaged in discussions with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Luc Frieden, as well as with Finance Minister Gilles Roth, Defence Minister Yuriko Backes, Environment Minister Serge Wilmes, Digitalisation Minister Stéphanie Obertin, Justice Minister Elisabeth Margue, Economy Minister Lex Delles and Culture Minister Eric Thill. They also met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies (Luxembourg's parliament), Claude Wiseler, accompanied by Gusty Graas, MP and Chairman of the parliamentary committee on foreign and European affairs, cooperation, foreign trade and the Greater Region.

The participants discussed economic diplomacy at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, in the presence of its President, Fernand Ernster.

The heads of Luxembourg's diplomatic missions were also received by Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg at the Grand Ducal Palace.

The Foreign Ministry noted that 50.9% of all staff currently working for the department are women and 49.1% are men. The Luxembourg diplomatic corps today comprises 170 diplomats, 43.5% of whom are women. Regarding the network of diplomatic and consular missions of the Grand Duchy, Luxembourg currently has 47 bilateral embassies, thirteen permanent representations to international organisations, six consulates general and nine Luxembourg Trade and Invest offices (LTIOs).
