Luxembourg's Government Information and Press Service (SIP) has confirmed that the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, and his wife Eva Pavlová, will visit Luxembourg on a two-day state visit from tomorrow, Thursday 29 February 2024, having been invited by the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess.
The Czech President and his wife will be accompanied by a delegation comprising around thirty Czech companies.
On the Thursday, their itinerary includes a military welcome at the Grand Ducal Palace and a meeting with the Grand Ducal couple before paying their respects at Luxembourg's national monument of solidarity and then meeting various politicians, including the Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, Deputy Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Claude Wiseler, and Luxembourg city Mayor, Lydie Polfer. A group of musicians from the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg are scheduled to perform.
The visiting couple will lay a wreath at Square Jan Palach and another at the tomb of John the Blind in the cathedral, before travelling to visit the headquarters of SES in Betzdorf and later being guests of honour at a gala dinner.
The second and final day of their visit, Friday, will see them visit NSPA in Capellen and the Luxembourg II European School in Mamer, including attending a musical performance by Czech students. In addition, they will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with various school projects and meet around a hundred children of Czech origin from different sections of the European School.
Following a lunch with politicians, they will visit the European Court of Justice and the Chamber of Commerce where they will participate in a Czech Republic-Luxembourg Business Forum. Their visit will also take in the Belval campus of the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Learning Centre, before attending a concert at the Cercle Cité, followed by a reception hosted by the Czech President his wife.
