The LCGB trades union has called for immediate recognition in Luxembourg of the education and qualifications of religious teachers holding a Bachelors degree.
Following the introduction of the Bachelor career in pedagogy to remedy the unclear situation of more than 50 religious teachers who were trained at the Institute of Religious Pedagogy obtaining a Bachelors degree.
With the government’s announcement of the decision to abolish religious education at primary school, the employees concerned will nevertheless be taken over by the Luxembourg government of their current employer, the Archdiocese of Luxembourg, under their previous remuneration conditions without considering the new diplomas acquired.
The LCGB therefore calls for an immediate and retroactive adjustment to the Grand-Ducal regulation, which defines salary subsidies for teachers and lecturers of religion, in order to create conditions that are identical to those teaching lecturers in pedagogy.
In addition to this unequal treatment, the abolition of religious courses leads to the deterioration of the rights of employees on the following questions:
- the stable task of the teacher will be transferred to the replacement pool with more variations in the work schedule;
- the definition of a full-time assignment will vary according to the type of education (basic, secondary, differentiated education, education auxiliary, etc.);
- the transitional procedure will be considered as recruitment (not as a transfer);
- teachers will have to take courses again for qualifications already acquired;
- access to posts in the basic teacher will be restricted and a specific priority will not be
The LCGB asks the government to retroactively adapt Bachelor's careers in religious education and pay fair wages for a comparable job provided by agents of the same level of qualification within the national education.
The LCGB encourages the government to act quickly, while clarifying working conditions and taking into account the professional and private situations of the agents concerned, who have not chosen this substantial change in their professional career.
