On Monday 9 May 2016, Claude Meisch, in his role as Minister of Education, Children and Youth, hosted a Portuguese delegation for a three-day study visit.
The visit was borne from long-standing cooperation between Luxembourg and Portugal and as a means for the Portuguese delegation to learn about the measures taken in the Grand Duchy in the field of education for children with special educational needs (SEN) and to network with experts in the field.
To learn more about the schools and existing specialised infrastructure on offer, a series of visits were included in the programme, including to the Centre d'éducation différenciée, Centre propédeutique de Warken, Institut pour infirmes moteurs cérébraux, Centre de logopédie and the Institut pour enfants autistiques et psychotiques.
The visit was also an opportunity for the Portuguese delegation to learn about Luxembourg's approach to the diagnosis and assessment of Portuguese-speaking SEN pupils, cohabitation classes and the education of students with special educational needs who are integrated into mainstream education and receive specialised interventions from multi-professional teams.
According to the Ministry of Education, Childhood and Youth, the exchanges allowed for the continuation of the good relations between the two countries and the enhancement of the cooperation between the two ministries involved.
