Following the multiple attacks on bars, restaurants, a concert hall and a stadium in Paris on Friday evening, Luxembourg Minister of Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch, yesterday called on all staff of the scholastic and educational community to address the situation with young people and response to the questions of the latter in this regard.
In a message released on the afternoon of Sunday 15 November 2015, the Minister cited France as "the birthplace of human rights" and "our neighbour", stating that "the flags of our schools will be at half mast in the two days to come".
"We share with [France] the culture and democratic values that are the foundation of our society," Minister Meisch continued. "The attacks were aimed at undermining those beliefs. National education actors should continue to encourage students in the fight against all forms of intolerance, hatred, racism and violence in their school community as in their daily lives."
The Minister called on educational figures to teach the values of justice, freedom, tolerance, respect and solidarity to children in the Grand Duchy and further afield and help them to understand the events that occurred over the weekend and how they can be prevented from happening again.
