On Friday 31 October 2025, the Fondation Jeunes Scientifiques Luxembourg (FJSL) hosted the closing ceremony of the fifteenth edition of the Luxembourg International Science Expo (LISE) at Kinepolis in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, in the presence of Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden.

LISE is a non-competitive fair that brings together young national and international scientists and this edition is set to showcase around 60 projects from bright young minds representing Luxembourg and 27 other countries.

The closing ceremony welcomed around 250 attendees and followed the two-day science festival, which featured open days at Hall Victor Hugo in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg, where there was a showcase of a selection of international scientific projects from the festival.

Prime Minister Frieden said: “I want to congratulate the organisers of this 15th Young Scientist Expo, because it brings science of young people to the forefront of our attention, it expresses support for them, and hopefully, and I am convinced by that, it will encourage you to go on with scientific studies once you leave secondary school, or for some of you who are already at university, to continue pursuing scientific studies and research. Research is key for the development of mankind.”

Christine Pegel, Director of Anefore, the national agency of the Erasmus+ Programme in Luxembourg, then gave a speech in which she celebrated the “talent, creativity and energy dedicated to science” shown at the science expo. She said: “Keep trying, questioning and keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Every project, every experiment, every international collaboration contributes to a future built on knowledge, innovation and a shared sense of humanity. I hope the past two days here in Luxembourg have been both inspiring and also rewarding and that you have taken pride in presenting your amazing work.”

The ceremony continued with the presentation of MOBI Science awards for each country that participated in the expo. The 2025 MOBI Sciences project was funded through the Erasmus Plus Programme and received nearly €400,000 in European co-funding, supporting activities for more than 380 participants, including the LISE closing ceremony.

The presentation of the awards was punctuated with two performances from Luxembourg dance group Helen’s Dance.

There then followed a retrospective video which featured footage of the expo’s open days - including the students participating in interactive experiments, challenges and a communal games night - as well as footage of the students visiting the Luxlait Vitarium, MUDAM and the Europa Experience in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

Closing words were provided by Sousana Eang, Director of the FJSL in which she thanked the students, organisers and those in attendance. She remarked: “LISE is a place where science becomes human again. Where knowledge meets kindness. Where the next generation learn how to think, but also how to connect, and that, to me, is the future of education.”
