The annual rate of inflation in Luxembourg has risen from 2.0% to 2.1%, according to STATEC.

In April 2021, the national consumer price index, calculated by STATEC, recorded a modest increase of 0.1% compared to the previous month. The price of petroleum products fell by 0.4% over one month, while the prices of goods and services excluding petroleum products increased by 0.1%. 

Following four months of oil price increases, this upward trend came to an end last month; between March and April 2021, the price of petroleum products fell by 0.4%. At the pump, motorists had to pay 1.8% less for a litre of Diesel but 0.7% more for a litre of petrol compared to the previous month. Heating oil prices fell by 2.3%, while those of town gas increased by 2.1%.

In April, food prices were 0.2% lower than the month before. Price drops particularly affected fresch seafood (down 5.2%), ice cream (down 2.6%) and pasta (down 2.3%). The most significant price increases were observed for fresh vegetables (up 2.8%), eggs (up 2.0%) and pizzas and quiches (up 0.7%). Over one year, food prices were down 0.5%.

Regarding services, prices increased by 1.8% for creches and day-care centres. An increase of 0.5% was recorded in the restaurant sector. Airline ticket prices rose by 10.1%, while package holiday prices fell by 3.0%. The price of mobile telephone services also fell by 2.4%.

The annual inflation rate stood at 2.1% in April, up from 2.0% the month before. The general index for the month of April expressed in base 100 in 2015 was 108.19 points.
