As part of an Important Project of Common European interest (IPCEI), Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy has launched a call for innovative projects linked to the hydrogen economy.

As part of the clean hydrogen IPCEI, the Economy Ministry is calling on economic operators wishing to participate in large-scale innovative projects with the aim of developing a strategic value chain at the European level relating to the hydrogen economy. The aim of the call is to identify Luxembourg players who could participate in ambitious, relevant and sufficiently successful projects to be included as a national contribution to the design, production and use of energy solutions from hydrogen within the European Union (EU).

The call follows the signing last December of the Manifesto for the development of a European “Hydrogen Technologies and Systems” value chain. Developed under the aegis of Germany during its European presidency, the manifesto expresses the will of the 23 signatory countries (22 Member States as well as Norway) to support the deployment of clean hydrogen in Europe, through the implementation of an IPCEI dedicated to hydrogen. The Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, signed the manifesto on behalf of the Luxembourg government.

Of strategic interest, IPCEIs are projects considered to be key factors for economic growth, job creation and competitiveness in the EU, which require transnational investments from the public authorities and industries of several Member States.

Since 2018, the European Commission has identified the potential of hydrogen technologies and systems to support Europe's green and digital transition, while creating sustainable industrial jobs and helping to achieve European energy and climate objectives.

Details of the call for expressions of interest are available (in English) here.

The deadline to submit a project is 15 April 2021 at noon.
