Luxembourg Ballet has announced its forthcoming performances of The Snow Queen in Vic. Abens Hall at Chateau de Vianden on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December 2024, with performances at 19:00 on the Saturday and 17:00 on the Sunday.

The performances, which are directed and choreographed by Volha Kastel, will feature world renowned principal dancers including Anton Kravchenko and Alexis Tutunnique, together with children from IDEA Dance Niederanven and Ecole de Musique de l'Union Grand Duc Adolphe.

The Snow Queen, based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, tells the story of neighbours and best friends Kai and Gerda who like to play and dream together under the rose boxes of their apartments. One day, however, Kai is struck by two shards of the devil's mirror that distorts the appearance of everything it reflects. The shards lodge in his eye and heart resulting in him turning into a cruel boy with a heart of ice, that only sees the ugly in the world. He destroys the roses and mocks Gerda. Kai is kidnapped by the Snow Queen and Gerda sets out to save him. She faces many dangers along the way including being attacked by robbers, but her love of Kai and her memory of the roses overcome all these dangers. When she eventually reaches the Snow Queen's castle, and reunites with Kai, her tears help melt his icy heart. Kai's own tears heal his eyes, and he is free once again.

The Snow Queen is a reflection on the meaning of life and the struggle between good and evil, that can move one to tears.

A crémant reception for holders of Prestige and Royal ticket categories begins one hour before each show.

Tickets cost €85, €120 and €155 and are available for purchase at https://luxembourgballet.lu/snowqueen.
