The Europahalle Trier and the Mierscher Theater have teamed up to organise the Movement Art International Dance Festival from Thursday 26 to Saturday 28 September 2024.

Under the artistic direction of the German-Syrian choreographer Saeed Hani, the Movement Art festival will present seven productions by international dance companies in Trier (Germany) and Mersch (Luxembourg) this September. The programme offers a cross-section of current trends in contemporary dance.

On the opening evening in the Europahalle Trier, three productions are on the programme that have already been presented at international festivals:

- the "Warrior" solo by the German-Luxembourgish choreographer Anne-Mareike Hess humorously and poetically questions whether strength alone is enough to solve current problems;

- William Cardoso, a Luxembourg artist with Portuguese roots, opens up a place for the audience to encounter their demons, fears and forgiveness in his duet "Raum";

- the three pillars of the human body (hand, head and heart) are the focus of "HHH" by French-American dancer-choreographer Thibaut Eiferman.

The second day of the festival also presents three pieces by internationally award-winning companies:

- in "ATMA", the Greek duo Danae & Dionysios contrast the bestial with the human;

- K(-A-)O by Kenji Shinohe, a Japanese dancer and choreographer living in Düsseldorf, deals with the representation of feelings in the information society;

- the versatile artist Luiza Braz Batista brings her Brazilian roots to life in "Olorun".

To conclude the festival, the Mierscher Theater will showcase "Khaos" by Saeed Hani in Mersch on 28 September. Inspired by Greek mythology, this performance featuring seven dancers combines contemporary dance, visual art and body art. "Khaos" was shown last year with "great success" in both Trier and Mersch and is being performed again "due to high demand", noted the organisers. A free shuttle bus will operate between Trier and Mersch.

"With our biennial festival, we want to present works that boldly challenge and cross traditional boundaries with their innovative forms of expression," said the festival's artistic director, Saeed Hani, whose dance company Hani Dance is based in Luxembourg.

Advance ticket sales for the festival have already started. In addition to day tickets (€25 / €18 reduced), there is the option of purchasing a festival pass (€65 / €49 reduced), which is valid for all seven performances.

The Movement Art Festival is organised by menschMITmensch e.V., Hani Dance and the Mierscher Theater, who have already worked together in this constellation on the dance productions "Out of Range" and "Khaos".

In addition to the seven performances, the festival offers two workshops for dance enthusiasts (all experience levels): "Shapeshifting" by Danae & Dionysios and "Dynamic Movement" by David Schwindling-Meza, both of which will take place in the Tufa Trier.
