On Friday 16 October 2026, the selection process for Luxembourg’s entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 entered its latest phase.

From Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October, a total of 80 artists are taking part in auditions at the RTL studios in Luxembourg-Kirchberg. This represents an increase of approximately 50% in applicants compared to the previous two years.

Unlike in 2025 and 2026, where candidates were required to apply with their final song, this year’s initial call for applications has been broadened. Artists who do not yet have a specific song are now encouraged to try their luck, opening the door to a wider pool of talent.

Eligibility and Candidate Profile

To be considered for the selection process, candidates had to meet at least one of the following criteria: hold Luxembourgish nationality, have resided in Luxembourg for a minimum of three years, or demonstrate a proven connection to the Luxembourg cultural and music scene.

Among the 80 hopefuls, there is a mix of returning candidates from previous auditions and a wealth of new talent, underscoring the sustained interest in Luxembourg’s Eurovision journey. The breakdown of backgrounds remains largely consistent: nearly 70% of candidates hold Luxembourgish nationality or dual nationality, while 20% qualify through residency and 10% via their cultural connection. The majority of these candidates hail from neighbouring countries like Belgium and France, as well as the Mediterranean region, including Portugal, Italy, Spain, Malta and Greece.

The selection process is divided into three distinct stages:

Stage One: Performing Artist Preselection

The current auditions represent the first stage, where candidates are evaluated on their vocal ability, artistic identity, and stage performance skills. The successful performing artists from this round will advance to the next stage, with their names expected to be announced shortly after the auditions conclude.

Stage Two: Song Preselection

Concurrently with the artist selection, the call for submissions for songwriters and composers remains open. This allows both local and international creators to submit original songs for the Luxembourg Song Contest 2027. The preselected performing artists are also encouraged to submit their own compositions. Over 300 songs have already been submitted, and entries will be accepted until 29 October 2026.

Stage Three: The Decisive “Pairing Workshop”

A new and crucial third stage, the “Pairing Workshop”, will bring together the preselected artists and songs. This innovative creative matching process aims to identify the most promising artist-song combinations that possess strong Eurovision potential, ensuring Luxembourg is represented at the highest level of the competition. All three stages of the selection process are overseen by experienced Eurovision experts and professionals, whose identities will be revealed as the selection progresses.

The finalists for the Luxembourg Song Contest (LSC) will be announced in mid-November, following the “Pairing Workshop” scheduled for early November. These finalists will then perform live at the LSC Grand Final, which takes place at Rockhal on 30 January 2027.

The winner of the Luxembourg Song Contest 2027 will earn the honour of representing the Grand Duchy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, which is set to be held from 11 to 15 May 2027 in Burgas, Bulgaria.
