The Luxembourg Cricket Federation (LCF) has announced that an under-13s national team cricket tournament between Luxembourg, Switzerland and Belgium will take place in the Walferdange cricket grounds on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June 2023.
Matches will start at 09:00 and run until 18:00 on Saturday and take place from 09:00 to 16:00 on Sunday. Entry is free for spectators.
According to LCF, this triangular tournament will be a highlight of the year for its "fast-growing" youth programme. There are currently 120 players aged under sixteen- double the pre-pandemic number.
Madhu Ramachandran, Chair of LCF, commented: "This growth is due mainly to the recent arrival of many dozens of families from traditional cricket playing countries. Yet also, many of our young players are completely new to the game. Thanks to this growth, we now have under-11, under-13 and under-15 club teams in the Belgium Cricket Federation Junior leagues and development squads participating in German tournaments."
Harpal Virdee, Chair of the LCF Juniors Sub-Committee, added: "The youth programme is for girls and boys aged five to sixteen years and is open to beginners as well as those who have played before. Cricket is traditionally a summer team bat and ball sport, but we play year-round, with an extensive indoor programme during the winter. We now have dedicated age-group sessions run by trained coaches."
