The Luxembourg-based East-West United Bank (EWUB) has announced that it is organising, for the third year in a row, financial literacy lessons for children aged 8 to 13.

In response to high demand from children and their parents, EWUB is extending the number of topics and available languages for the sessions this year. Online lessons will be held in English, French and Russian on Saturdays 27 March, 24 April and 15 May 2021, via Zoom.

The aim of the initiative is to nurture children's interest in financial knowledge via first-hand communication with financial experts.

Yulia Reuttskaya, Marketing Director at EWUB, noted: “During the past two years, more than 150 children participated in our lessons and we were surprised by the demand from the parents to continue the tradition and also provide the content in different languages. We feel it is important to explain to children how to manage their finances, how to achieve their first financial goals. As a bank we see it as our duty to assist in forming healthy financial habits and explaining modern financial world” .

Topics to be discussed with 10 to 13 year olds include “Five ways to invest”, “Shares and bonds for beginners” and “Taxes and why we need them”. Younger children (8 to 10 year olds) will have a chance to learn about “Bank cards and how to use them safely”, “Budgeting tips and life hacks for kids” and “What banks do”.

Senior staff of the bank will explain complex financial terminology in a simple way, using videos, tests and examples.

The duration of each lesson is 30 to 45 minutes. At the end of the lesson, each participant will receive an online certificate "EWUB Junior Banker".

Participation is free of charge. For registration, visit events.ewub.lu/events/ev-02c62558ebee05366ebe5f7652111232.htm.
