Luxembourg's Institut national pour le développement durable et la responsabilité sociale des entreprises (INDR) recently awarded 17 companies in the Grand Duchy with ESR (Entreprise socialement responsable - corporate social rensposibility) labels.

The 11th official ceremony awarding ESR labels took place on Thursday 9 June 2016 at the Chambre de Commerce in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, in the presence of Carole Dieschbourg, Luxembourg's Minister of the Environment

Themed by the European Commission as a vital issue, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is becoming an essential strategic tool for business leaders. CSR is an opportunity for each company to improve governance, strengthen its social commitment and to limit its environmental impact. The company ensures its own sustainability while contributing to sustainable development.

ESR labeled companies have realised the benefits of CSR that provides a real competitive advantage by improving the company's reputation; its ability to attract and retain employees and customers; commitment, motivation and productivity of employees; and relationships with suppliers, governments, competitors, the media, NGOs, i.e. with the society in which companies operate.

In his welcome address, Michel Wurth, Chairman of INDR and the UEL, conveyed the congratulations of François Bausch, Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, and confrimed that there are now a total of 114 ESR labeled companies in Luxembourg. At the dawn of the third industrial revolution, CSR provides a context in which companies can reassess their relationship with a company. Labeled companies play their role as a model company, applying good practices in support.
