The 55th Bazar International, held on 28 and 29 November 2015 at LuxExpo, was a great success, enabling an all-time record of €600,000 to be donated to 97 charities worldwide.
More than 23,000 visitors enjoyed this spectacular annual event. Thanks to their generosity, to that of the sponsors and, last but not least, to the hard work put in by 75 Bazaar Stands, the amount raised in 2015 year broke all records.
The annual cheque presentation ceremony was held at BGL BNP PARIBAS’s premises at Kirchberg on 2 March 2016. Many guests of honour, including several ambassadors, were welcomed by the Bazaar President Erika Ehrhard and the Committee of the Bazar International. At this ceremony, the Heads of Stands, representing 63 nations, were thanked for their teams’ tireless and selfless efforts that achieved the International Bazaar’s huge success.
The proceeds of the 2015 Bazaar are now being distributed to support a large number of charities which were proposed by the individual Stands and evaluated by the Committee. The amounts to be donated were agreed and ratified by the General Assembly.
The Principal Charity of the 2015 Bazaar, a project in South Africa called “Bienvenu Shelter for Migrant Women and their Children”, run by a religious congregation, received €25,000. The shelter cares for destitute women and children who are victims of forced displacement, having the war in the Congo or elsewhere. The Bazaar will finance in part the cost of schooling and professional training for a year.
Another significant amount of €20,000 is being given to “Child Action Nepal” in Nepal, where a British organisation runs two orphanages. Aid from the Bazaar will fund the running costs for one house for a year.
Four charities based in Luxembourg, receiving a total of €24,000, are:
- Service de consultation et d’aide psychomotrice (SCAP), Strassen;
- Conseil national des femmes du Luxembourg (Foyer pour femmes en détresse), Luxembourg;
- Rééducation précoce – Hëllef fir de Puppelchen asbl, Strassen;
- Mouvement ATD Quart Monde, Luxembourg.
A total of €85,500 was awarded to a further 15 Luxembourg organisations which support projects in Burkina Faso, Colombia, Guatemala, India, Malawi, Mexico, Nepal, Niger, Peru, the Philippines, Senegal, Tanzania and Thailand.
The remaining amount of €445,500 was awarded to a large number of other organisations around the world, with special emphasis being placed on developing countries.
The President thanked everybody involved for their hard work and commitment to the excellent causes supported by the Bazaar.
The 56th International Bazaar will be held on 26 and 27 November 2016 at LuxExpo.
