
The Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) has reported that the third edition of the Luxembourg Tourism Summit took place on Thursday 15 May 2025, at the Cercle Cité in Luxembourg-Ville.
According to the LCTO, the event brought together tourism professionals and industry stakeholders to exchange ideas on the future of the sector, with this year’s edition centred around three core themes: people, place and planet.
The event opened in the morning with speeches by LCTO and City of Luxembourg (VdL) representatives. Throughout the day, international experts presented “innovative projects demonstrating how sustainable tourism can be successfully implemented”. The emphasis focused on how tourist destinations, local actors and the visitor ecosystem can collaborate to build resilient structures.
The conference programme included a series of keynote speeches and expert presentations, moderated by Signe Jungersted, CEO and co-founder of Group NAO. Guy Bigwood, CEO and Chief Changemaker at the Global Destinations Sustainability Movement, spoke on “Pragmatic Optimism in Times of Uncertainty”, emphasising the role of sustainability during periods of instability. Pia Lange Christensen, CEO of Visit Aarhus, explored how volunteer engagement can enhance tourism in her presentation on “The Benefits of Social Sustainability and Volunteering in Tourism”. Frank Cuypers, founder of Place Generation, highlighted the importance of local identity in tourism in his talk, “The Sea of Sameness: Why Place Matters and How You Can Only Reinvent Yourself by Knowing Yourself”.
The LCTO reported that additional contributions to the programme included a presentation by Ljubica Knežević Cvelbar, professor at the School of Business and Economics at the University of Ljubljana, who examined the topic “Navigating Global Change: Challenges, Transformations, and Tourism’s Role”. Tilman Naujoks of Fraunhofer IAO outlined innovative scenarios and potential developments within the business events ecosystem, while Ewoud Desmet, project manager at Visit Antwerp, introduced the initiative “Creating a Local Movement of City Hosts”.
The conference concluded with a networking cocktail at the Cercle Cité, providing participants with the opportunity to establish new contacts and reinforce existing professional ties.
