Under the Luxembourg presidency of the Benelux Union, a conference entitled "A changing world: living permanently without borders and without limits?" took place at the Biodiversum Camille Gira Nature and Forest Centre in Remerschen in south-eastern Luxembourg, from 20 to 22 November 2019.

The conference, held in the presence of Luxembourg Ministers Carole Dieschbourg (Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development) and Claurde Meisch (National Education, Children and Youth), served as a platform for knowledge exchange, professional development and networking and was the first of a trilogy of conferences (2019-21) focusing on the environmental education, education for sustainable development and the territory and its sustainable, geographical and natural limits, among others.

This first conference was aimed primarily at environmental education and education for sustainable development professionals, including teachers, trainers, researchers and civil servants, as well as young participants from the three Benelux countries.

The opening speeches of Ministers Dieschbourg and Meisch and Benelux Union Secretary-General Thomas Antoine emphasised the importance of strengthening synergies and coordination between the various actors, in order to raise awareness among young people and adults concerning the sustainability challenges of society.

On this occasion, the rector of the Grand-Est academic region, Jean-Marc Huart, highlighted the importance of strengthening cross-border cooperation with France and the development of joint projects. Benelux Union Deputy Secretary-General Alain de Muyser closed the conference by passing the torch to Flanders, which will take over the presidency in 2020.

During these three days, workshops, exchanges and guided tours enabled some 80 participants, which included several young people from the three countries, to exchange their experiences and good practices and, above all, to forge links for future projects.
