Meeting between the Grand Duke of Luxembourg and Fairtrade International on 16 November at COP 23 in Bonn.
At the COP23 climate change conference in Bonn, a meeting between HRH Grand Duke Henri and a delegation from Fairtrade International was held under the direction of Dario Soto Abril (CEO of Fairtrade International).
Grand Duke Henri and his family have supported fair trade for more than 25 years. At this meeting in Bonn, the Grand Duke took the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to fair trade. In addition, he highlighted his particular interest in the growing efforts of the Fairtrade movement in the fight against climate change.
The meeting took place during the final decisive days of the Climate Summit, which saw world leaders join the representatives to ensure the achievement of the goals set by the Paris Agreement on Climate. In particular, the Fairtrade movement made the producers' voices heard during the discussions. To fight climate change in a sustainable way, Fairtrade focuses on two areas of action: reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and supporting producer organisations to adapt to climate change and consequences of climate change.
Henri Kox, Luxembourg MP, Andreas Kratz, Director of Standards at Fairtrade International, and Lannette Chiti, Senior Climate Change Advisor at Fairtrade International, also attended the meeting.
The Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg NGO, the national fair trade organisation in Luxembourg, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Its work in sustainable development is based on ecological, social and economic criteria, which serve as a basis for certification of products with the Fairtrade label.
