In the context of the pioneering input conference ‘Mapping English in Luxembourg: An Interdisciplinary Conference’, the Institute of English Studies and the Institute of Luxembourgish Language and Literatures are organising a public roundtable discussion on the role and importance of English in Luxembourg on 10 June.
The conference aims to explore the development of the varieties of English spoken, written and read in Luxembourg and examines the role of English in Luxembourgish politics, society, education and literature, thus complicating representations of Luxembourgish culture and history as predominantly shaped by its geographical location between France, Germany and Belgium.
The roundtable discussion will focus on the challenges of learning and teaching English in Luxembourg, the position of English in the schools of the future, and the role of English as a language of integration.
The guest speakers are author Anne-Marie Reuter, Jean-Jacques Weber from the University of Luxembourg, Frank Schmit from Athénée de Luxembourg high school, Josiane Weis from the Lycée Michel Rodange, and Louise Crosby, from the Education Ministry.
The round table will start at 14:30 at the Maison des Sciences Humaines, Black Box, Campus Belval of the University of Luxembourg.
