On Tuesday 15 December 2015, the Luxembourg Prime Minister and Minister of Communications and Media, Xavier Bettel, delivered the opening speech of the European high-level conference entitled "Transforming Digital Age Reviews towards Europe" held in Luxembourg.
Organised under the Luxembourg Presidency, the conference aimed to bring together entrepreneurs and European policymakers on issues of the impact of the digital revolution on employment and the general shortage of skilled labour.
The Prime Minister stressed that today digital skills are a key factor of economic competitiveness. In order to develop growth, innovation and employment, we must constantly adapt skills to labour market needs. By evoking concrete initiatives for the Ministry of Labour to qualify in programming the unemployed, the Digital4Education programme of the Ministry of Education to prepare young people for the digital society, and supporting the creation of a ICT centre for skills training employees to digital, he presented some government actions for ICT skills at national level.
Faced with a shortage of increasingly important ICT professionals in Luxembourg as throughout the European Union, the development of digital skills is a key element of the Digital Lëtzebuerg initiative and the Luxembourg Presidency which has the problem of digital literacy as one of its priorities.
