On Friday 25 October 2024, Wecitizens asbl announced the recent inauguration of the first European Documentation Centre in Luxembourg.

Wecitizens asbl inaugurated the new centre, located at 8 Rue de Bonnevoie in Luxembourg-Gare, on Friday 18 October 2024. The non-profit said this event marked a milestone in the country's engagement with European institutions, featuring guest speakers such as Marc Angel, Questor and Member of the European Parliament, and Anne Calteux, Head of Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg.

The newly established European Documentation Centre will provide free and reliable access to official EU publications, available through the EU Bookshop. In today's world, where misinformation is increasingly prevalent, this centre aims to offer citizens, students and researchers access to up-to-date, credible information about the European Union's initiatives and policies. It will also serve as a platform for promoting dialogue between citizens and European institutions through events like citizen dialogues and educational workshops.

Caroline Reviriot, Director of Programmes at Wecitizens, emphasised the centre's role in strengthening civic engagement and fostering connections between citizens and EU institutions. Since 2018, Wecitizens has played a role in promoting the social economy by supporting local and transnational initiatives focusing on civic education and solidarity. The association aims to engage citizens in collective projects that positively impact social, environmental and economic challenges. As such, the centre will fully integrate into Wecitizens' activities, offering interactive content, workshops and partnerships with schools and universities to enhance its impact.

Wecitizens said it is eager to expand this initiative, continuing to inspire civic participation and deepen democratic involvement throughout Luxembourg.
