Several associations have come to the aid of Luxembourg charity for the homeless Stëmm vun der Strooss.
The non-profit organisation Kolping Luxembourg donated the significant sum of €16,335.70 to Stëmm vun der Strooss to enable the latter to continue paying the salary of a part-time cook in the organisation's social restaurant for a further six months.
Founded in 1864, Kolping Luxembourg forms part of the global network Kolping International, which is comprised of 400,000 members across sixty countries, actively involved in the equitable transformation of society. Kolping Luxembourg President, Marie-France Brauch, launched the initative to help SVDS.
"This is not the first time that Kolping has offered its support to Stëmm; they have in the past helped us fund kitchens in two apartments as part of our Immo Stëmm project," Stëmm director, Alexandra Oxacelay, explained.
Stëmm has decided to extend the working hours of the cook who until now filled in 20 hours a week full-time in order to meet growing customer demand for the association's social restaurant. According to recent figures, the number of meals servied in Hollerich has increased by 68% over the last two years and the number of visitors has doubled, meaning that the organisation is grateful for all the support it can get.
Meanwhile, the Lions Club Roude Léiw and the Integration Commission of the Mersch commune have also taken action in support of Stëmm vun der Strooss. After representatives of the Integration Commission visit the organisation's post-therapy centre, they decided along with the Lions Club Roude Léiw to dedicate the funds raised at their stand at the Mersch Christmas market to Stëmm. €1,000 was contributed by the Lions Club whilst €444.71 was provided by the Integration Commission.
