Dead Man Walking (live on Sat 21 Oct @ 18:55: recorded on Mon 30 Oct @ 13:45): Based on Sister Helen Prejean's book in which she recounts her fight against the death penalty, Jake Heggie's penetrating opera, hailed in particular for its remarkable libretto, opens the Met's season live from New York. X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X (live on Sat 18 Nov @ 18:55; recorded on Mon 27 Nov @ 13:45): First performed in 1986, this opera by American composer Anthony Davis presents the life of the activist Malcolm X, from his youth to his assassination, in a series of galvanising tableaux, touching on the key events of his era. Nabucco (live on Sat 6 Jan @ 18:55; recorded on Mon 15 Jan @ 13:45): Verdi's first great success, Nabucco captivates and enthrals with its plot combining family, politics and romance, not to mention its majestic choruses, including the famous "Va pensiero". Mariusz Treliński's new staging takes a singular look at the fate of the characters by moving the action into a contemporary world, with the sensational Lise Davidsen making her debut in the role of Leonora. Madame Butterfly (live on Sat 11 May @ 18:55; recorded on Mon 20 May @ 13:45): Two rising stars come together to embody Puccini's drama, admirably directed by Anthony Minghella: the Lithuanian Asmik Grigorian makes her Met debut as the innocent Butterfly, and Jonathan Tetelman as the cynical Pinkerton.
