Rett and the City, a small-scale, practical initiative launched by the Association Luxembourgeoise du Syndrome de Rett (ALSR) has announced it will host a series of scheduled gatherings in support of mothers of girls living with Rett syndrome.
Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorder that primarily affects brain development, almost always in girls.
ALSR said the concept behind the initiative is straightforward: offer regular, organised moments where these mothers can step out of their daily caregiving routine and meet in a relaxed setting.
Each event is structured as a brunch meeting, bringing together a small group of mothers for a few hours. There is no formal programme, no speakers or presentations and no institutional framework. The objective is simple: create a predictable, accessible opportunity to meet, talk and disconnect from daily constraints.
ALSR said: “Mothers caring for children with Rett syndrome face highly demanding daily routines, often leaving little room for social interaction. By limiting the initiative to three pre-planned brunches per year, Rett and the City keeps the commitment realistic and compatible with their availability.”
ALSR noted that the choice of venues for the events — cafés, restaurants or hotels — is intentional, as these are neutral, comfortable and easily accessible places.
Looking ahead, ALSR expect the project to evolve with the addition of a well-being day (spa experience) for participating mothers. This extension would be fully financed by the association, supported by the City of Luxembourg (VdL) and complemented by private donors.
