On Wednesday 26 November 2025, non-governmental development organisation SOS Faim announced the launch of the “Solidarity Lunches” campaign in support of sustainable food efforts in Africa.
The campaign, undertaken with around twenty partners across Luxembourg, engages citizens around a simple action: turning their lunch into a gesture of solidarity for sustainable food in Africa. Since 2020, at the end of each year, restaurants, businesses and schools have offered dishes or products, a portion of the price of which is donated to SOS Faim to support food sovereignty projects led by African farmers.
The 2025 edition brings together twelve restaurants and six partner butcheries:
⁃ Brasserie K116 (Esch-sur-Alzette);
⁃ Chez Toni (Schifflange);
⁃ EXKi (Luxembourg);
⁃ La Mesa (Esch-sur-Alzette);
⁃ De Kolibri (Steinsel);
⁃ Glow (Luxembourg);
⁃ Kaf Lokal (Esch-sur-Alzette);
⁃ Reed (Luxembourg);
⁃ La Table de Frank (Steinfort);
⁃ Beiruty (Luxembourg);
⁃ La Mezzanine du Boulevard (Luxembourg);
⁃ Le Quai Steffen (Luxembourg);
⁃ as well as the six butcheries of the Steffen Group.
SOS Faim said that, throughout the campaign, these establishments will run solidarity initiatives: dedicated menus; donations to SOS Faim; sales of products for the benefit of the association; and awareness-raising activities for their customers.
For example, the Steffen Group will donate €2 per solidarity menu from Monday 24 November to Monday 15 December, while Beiruty, De Kolibri and Kaf Lokal will donate €1 per dish, menu or coffee sold.
In addition, POST Luxembourg and Ansamble Luxembourg are also participating in the campaign with the sale of Boxemännercher and Fairtrade chocolates purchased through partner Naturata, as well as anti-waste solidarity menus in canteens, with €1 donated per meal.
Naturata, the organic supermarket network, also joins the campaign this year by offering, from Friday 28 November to Wednesday 31 December. They will offer two solidarity products from Africa - Fairafric chocolate (produced in Ghana) and Ethiopian Kaffa coffee - a portion of the sales of which will be donated to SOS Faim.
Moreover, the Lycée Français du Luxembourg – Vauban, in partnership with Eurest, will offer on Thursday 27 November bio, local and solidarity menus. A tiered participation system will allow up to €1,000 to be donated to SOS Faim depending on the number of meals served.
SOS Faim noted that all funds raised will be donated to support African farmers in their fight against hunger and poverty, and to promote sustainable, resilient and solidarity-based agriculture. The organisation noted that according to the latest estimates from the FAO’s 2025 report, The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, 673 million people, or 8.3% of the global population, suffered from hunger in 2024. Despite a slight improvement worldwide, hunger is projected to affect 512 million people by 2030, nearly 60% of whom will be in Africa.
