On Friday 21 November 2025, Luxembourg bank Spuerkeess (Banque et Caisse d'Épargne de l'État - BCEE) announced the creation of the "Spuerkeess Foundation", a new initiative aimed at supporting young people, education and Luxembourg's artistic heritage.
The foundation, hosted within the Fondation de Luxembourg, aims to support projects that shape the future of the country in three main areas: the social inclusion of young people, through socio-educational projects; financial literacy, by supporting initiatives that strengthen citizens' financial skills and contribute to greater economic independence; the promotion of artistic heritage, by showcasing local creativity and supporting projects that give artists national and international visibility.
The foundation is administered by a Management Committee composed of representatives from Spuerkeess and the Fondation de Luxembourg, chaired by an independent member, and established for an initial five-year period (2025 to 2029), with the possibility of extension.
Françoise Thoma, CEO of Spuerkeess, explained: "With the Spuerkeess Foundation, we are affirming our commitment to youth, financial education and Luxembourgish culture. This initiative reflects our desire to actively contribute to the social and cultural development of the country."
Tonika Hirdman, Director General of the Fondation de Luxembourg, emphasised: "We are delighted to support Spuerkeess in this ambitious philanthropic endeavour. The Spuerkeess Foundation perfectly illustrates how private actors can contribute to causes of general interest in a structured and effective manner."
As one of its first actions, the Spuerkeess Foundation is supporting the "Tropismes" exhibition at Luxembourg Art Week 2025, presented by the non-profit organisation ArtContemporain.lu, an association dedicated to supporting the visual arts in Luxembourg and approved by the Ministry of Culture.
Designed by curator Danielle Igniti, this project highlights thirteen contemporary Luxembourg artists: Robin Bigret, Rozafa Elshan, Lisa Kohl, Jil Lahr, Nathalie Lesure, Alex Macedo, Jérémy Paluce, Armand Quetsch, Letizia Romanini, Marc Schroeder, Eric Schumacher, Alexandra Uppman and Daniel Wagener.
Presented in the "Take Off" section of Luxembourg Art Week, dedicated to emerging talents, each artist showcases two works, which are offered for sale without commission for the non-profit organisation, guaranteeing a transparent and artist-centred approach.
As part of its initial commitments to social inclusion, the Spuerkeess Foundation is also supporting two associations dedicated to young people and their professional integration: the "Centre Biergop", run by the Cercle Eric Haas, which recently opened a new centre in Manternach, and "Youth & Work", a structure specialised in coaching and supporting unemployed young people aged eighteen to 24.
"This foundation embodies the desire to contribute to an inclusive society and to the recognition of Luxembourgish talent on the international stage," concluded Françoise Thoma.
