On Friday 31 May 2024, SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde announced the upcoming launch of the fourth edition of the 20 km for SOS campaign for vulnerable children.
According to the organisers, the purpose of this challenge is to enjoy outdoor activities while helping to defend children's rights and care for separated children.
From 1 to 30 June 2024, the public is invited to complete an outdoor activity for 20 km (rollerblading, riding a scooter, cycling, running...) as part of this challenge. The aim is to complete a distance of 20 km or more and rally one’s family, friends and/or colleagues to sponsor each kilometre accomplished with a donation.
The challenge is open to everyone and can be completed solo, in groups of two or more, with family or friends, in one go or split over time. The slogan this year is: #LeaveNoOneBehind.
By joining the challenge, participants can support vulnerable children benefiting from the work carried out by SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde on four continents. In 2024, which marks the non-profit organisation's 50th anniversary, the campaign is focusing on education initiatives in Cape Verde, the Central African Republic, Colombia, Laos and Morocco, while also developing programmes to prevent child abuse, enhance community dynamics and promote social cohesiveness in West Africa and Uzbekistan. It also contributes to emergency responses during conflicts, natural disasters and major crises affecting children and families, such as those in Ethiopia, Palestine, Ukraine and beyond.
