The sixth edition of the LËTZ GO GOLD charity race took place in Luxembourg on Saturday 23 September 2023 and raised more than €600,000 for chidhood cancer research.

More than 1,400 participants and 100 teams took part in this year's race, which was organised once again by Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner, a Luxembourgish charity supporting children with cancer and their families. This edition set a new record both in terms of the participation rate and the amount collected.

The race took place on Saturday near the ponds in front of Kockelscheuer Ice Rink, in the presence of Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Paulette Lenert, the Minister for Family Affairs and Integration, Max Hahn, and the medical director of the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL), Dr Martine Goergen.

Participants were able to run or walk a 1.5 km, 5 km or 10 km route, at their own pace. Musicians, artists and refreshment stands lined the route to encourage them.

After a collective stretching session and a minute of silence for the young patients fighting or having fought cancer, the cheque presentation took place - the record amount of €601,771 will be entirely dedicated to research.

Anne Goeres, Director of Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner, commented: "Each year is a real challenge, both in terms of recruiting participants and in terms of fundraising. But, thanks to the incredible mobilisation of everyone, we have surpassed a new record. This solidarity for our patients and their families is absolutely wonderful. We thank all the sponsors and partners, without whom this event would not be possible. Our common goal is to accelerate the development of more effective treatments to save more lives of children with cancer."

The objective of LËTZ GO GOLD is to help find new medication and improve existing ones to fight childhood cancer. This solidarity race took place over the weekend in Luxembourg, Paris, Brussels and Madrid, with 10,580 participants and 660 teams succeeding in raising a total of €4,288,308. This money will fund nine innovative research programmes, selected by a panel of international and independent experts. According to the organisers, these programmes meet strict criteria for innovation, international collaboration and significant impact on young patients.

The next edition of LËTZ GO GOLD will take place in Luxembourg on Saturday 28 September 2024.
