Auchan, SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde Launch Benin Fundraising Campaign

On Thursday 7 September 2023, Auchan Retail Luxembourg and SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde relaunched their "back to school" solidarity campaign, set to run until 23 September 2023, aiming to support vulnerable children and their families in Benin.

This year marks the fifteenth celebration of the partnership between the Auchan Retail Luxembourg and SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde, and NHOOD Luxembourg will support the action. This fundraising campaign will run from 7 to 23 September 2023 in the three Auchan hypermarkets (Kirchberg, Opkorn Differdange and Cloche d'Or) and it will involve partner stores in the respective shopping galleries.

This action’s goal for 2023 is to support 300 vulnerable families from eighteen localities in Benin, a West African country where poverty is on the rise, particularly in rural areas.

Customers will be able to make donations in favour of vulnerable children in Benin. Auchan clients will be able to support the solidarity campaign during their checkout, either by adding the amount of their choice to their receipt, by offering part of their funds via the Auchan card or by buying a solidarity product, such as a bag produced last year by students from an art school supported by SOS in Benin and whose entire sale price will be donated to SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde.

In addition, SOS donation boxes will be installed in participating shops in the shopping centres for customers who will also be able to donate and learn about SOS projects during the "Solidarity Saturdays" of SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde. The Solidarity Saturdays will take place on 9 September 2023 at the Shopping Centre Opkorn Differdange, on 16 September 2023 at the Shopping Centre Kirchberg and on 23 September 2023 at the Shopping Centre Cloche d'Or.

On 1 September 2023, Sophie Glesener, director of SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde, took part in the launch of the 2023 action with Jean-Luc Carré, director of the Auchan Kirchberg hypermarket, and Sébastien Mercier, director of the operation at NHOOD Luxembourg. "For fifteen years now, Auchan Luxembourg and SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde have been partners and meet each year around the cause of the most vulnerable children in the world, those who have lost or are at risk of losing parental care. At a time when the world is being undermined by so many crises, this year we are counting on the generous solidarity of everyone to support on the path to sustainable development the children and families living in a very precarious situation in Benin," emphasised the partners.

In 2022, €16,500 was collected thanks to the solidarity campaign in favour of 700 children (food supplements) and adults (direct aid, community work) in the south of Madagascar.
