On Tuesday 3 May 2022, Luxembourg's Minister of Sports, Georges Engel, participated in the sports volunteers of the year recognition ceremony and opened the exhibition on volunteering in sport.
33 people, designated by their respective sports federation as "Volunteers of the Year", an initiative which aims to highlight the work of the thousands of volunteers on whom the operation of the Luxembourg sports movement depends in particular, were rewarded for their long-term commitment.
Minister Engel, as well as the Secretary General of the Luxembourg Olympic and Sports Committee (Comité olympique et sportif luxembourgeois - COSL), Ralf Lentz, noted the importance of volunteer work within the sports associations and federations, and thanked all those who contribute to the good functioning of Luxembourg sport and without which many competitions and events could not take place.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, Minister Engel inaugurated the exhibition on volunteering in sport in the entrance hall of the Coque, which is part of the campaign “Du bass de Veräin. Gëff Benevole". Minister Engel also thanked the volunteers who were part of this campaign launched in October 2021.
