The Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte has launched a call for projects in the field of sport and health.
In November 2021, the Œuvre organised a round table devoted to the subject of sport-health, during which a well-known observation was confirmed once again: physical inactivity is one of the biggest issues of our time and this phenomenon has been further amplified by COVID-19 measures.
This reduction in the practise of physical activity affects the entire population and has many consequences. Obesity, eating disorders and psychosocial disorders are a few examples of the effects of a phenomenon that can be considered a real public health issue, according to the Œuvre.
Consequently, at the end of January 2022, the Œuvre decided to adopt an action plan to combat this problem by raising awareness among Luxembourg's Government Council, as well as the Ministries of Sports, Education and Youth, Health and Social Security, among others. These government bodies will be asked to undertake as many actions or initiatives as possible in the areas that concern them to provide possible solutions to the findings made.
At the heart of this action plan is the launch of a new call for projects entitled “Activate – Make your move”, with a budget of €3,000,000.
Projects can be submitted from 24 February to 24 April 2022 (inclusive) in the following six categories:
- promote the practice of a physical activity and / or a leisure sport among the general population, all age categories combined;
- promote the practice of a physical activity and / or a leisure sport among a population-at-risk (all age categories);
- physical activity as a factor of inclusion for people with disabilities;
- physical activity as a factor of inclusion for people in precarious situations, e.g. people in reception structures, day / night centres, homeless people, etc.;
- physical activity to help overcome addictions;
- scientific studies and research on physical activity.
