Fondation Cancer has confirmed that more than 1,200 people took part in its "Sober Buddy Challenge" in Luxembourg this year.
In January 2022, Fondation Cancer launched the second edition of its Sober Buddy Challenge (i.e. an alcohol-free month).
A total of 1,215 people participated in this year's challenge, with 77% of participants passing the challenge by declaring that they had not drunk alcohol for 31 days.
Most of them managed to last more than three weeks, thus allowing the observation of the short-term benefits of giving up alcohol. 86% of participants considered limiting their alcohol consumption in the future.
Moreover, 97% of participants said they were prepared to restart the challenge next year.
Among the benefits reported by those who gave up alcohol for one month were: better sleep (for 46% of participants), saving money (36%), weight loss (33%) and better concentration (25%).
Inspired by other sobriety challenges such as Dry January, the aim of the Sober Buddy Challenge is to promote a public health message encouraging the Luxembourg population to rethink, slow down or even stop their alcohol consumption.
For the first edition in 2021, more than 2,500 people took up this challenge and 99% of participants surveyed said that they were ready to try the experience again.
