The non-profit Kolping Lëtzebuerg Asbl has donated €18,000 to its partner charity, Stëmm vun der Strooss, to finance the latter's covered terrace in Esch-sur-Alzette.
This is the third time that Kolping Lëtzebuerg has supported Stëmm vun der Strooss, a Luxembourg non-profit association which supports homeless people and vulnerable members of society. Alexandra Oxacelay, Director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, noted: "Thanks to this generous donation, we were able to reconstruct the terrace in Esch-sur-Alzette". The charity has built a pergola, which offers a more attractive and larger surface.
Marie-Jeanne Brauch, President of Kolping Lëtzebuerg, added: "For us, supporting the Stëmm goes without saying. Since some years already, we have been working together with a group of ten people employed within the framework of professional reintegration. This way, surplus clothes that are collected on the sites in Esch[-sur-Alzette] and Hollerich are passed on to us and, in close collaboration with the Jongenheem Asbl, forwarded to Germany, where they are recycled".
Alexandra Oxacelay deplored the fact that "often, the donated clothes are in bad condition – sometimes they even smell of urine or other excrements. For the individuals working within the context of professional reintegration, sorting under these circumstances is not rewarding". The Stëmm vun der Strooss thus reiterated that the public should only donate clean and undamaged clothes.
