This World Cancer Day (4 February), Luxembourg's Fondation Cancer is mobilising and redoubling its efforts to raise public awareness of the disease and express its support for patients and their loved ones.
While the fight against COVID-19 has been in the news for almost a year, Fondation Cancer wanted to take advantage of this day to shed light on what represents the second cause of death in Luxembourg.
Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess, who is the Honorary President of the foundation, shared the following video message (see below) for the occasion: “In Luxembourg, 3,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed each year and in the current health context, patients, their families and loved ones have more than ever in need of our support because they are going through difficult times, while showing extraordinary strength and I want to tell them that I am with them wholeheartedly".
To further emphasise this message of support, Fonation Cancer will be symbolically present (for health reasons) in all hospitals in Luxembourg on 4 February 2021. With this initiative, the foundation aims to reaffirm its message to patients and their families that it is there to help them.
Fondation Cancer will also take advantage of this day to launch an appeal for everyone to take part in its Relais pour la Vie solidarity event, which is taking place in a virtual format on 27 and 28 March 2021. The foundation emphasised that this message of solidarity "must continue to vibrate through each of us. Patients and their families need to know that we continue to be by their side, that they can count on us".
