8 Non-Profits Offering COVID-19 Testing for the Marginalised

Eight Luxembourgish non-profit organisations have opened their doors to offer COVID-19 testing to the marginalised this week.

On Monday at noon, Stëmm vun der Strooss, a Luxembourgish NGO that works for the social and professional integration of disadvantaged people, was the first association to offer screening tests, in addition to meals, showers, clothing and a laundry service, to marginalised individuals.

Health professionals observed that disadvantaged people, whether they have health insurance or not, often fail to take advantage of free coronavirus testing at the former national library site in Luxembourg-Kirchberg; they have many other priorities. Consequently, professionals in this sector realised that they had to adapt to potential patients affected by precariousness and not the other way around. With very few people attending social structures asking to be tested, despite the establishment of a group of six doctors, they reviewed the strategy in a very short time.

From Monday 7 until Friday 11 December 2020, the long-term unemployed, young people in difficulty, undocumented immigrants / workers and people suffering from addiction will have the opportunity to be tested in eight different places: Stëmm vun der Strooss in Esch-sur-Alzette; Abrigado l'Abrisud; the Wanteraktion premises in Findel; Le Courage on Rue Dernier Sol; Dropin; and within the Resonord structures in Troisvierges and Ettelbruck.
