The 2nd edition of Darkness Into Light held in Luxembourg, which should have been held on Saturday 9 May, has been rescheduled due to COVID-19 to Saturday 3 October 2020, with a start at 06:30 (later start due to later sunrise).
This new date and the walk itself will depend on Government advice on larger gatherings, but the organisers hope that they will be able to walk together this Autumn.
The organisers of Darkness Into Light in Luxembourg will be marking the sunrise of Saturday 9 May 2020 by lighting a candle in participants' respective homes or gardens in memory of those who have left us too soon or are struggling with mental health illnesses. The organisers are encouraging participants to not only join in by lighting their their candle by to also send a photo to email: darknessintolightluxembourg@gmail.com. All photographs will be published on the Darkness Into Light Luxembourg Facebook page.
Darkness Into Light is an international 5 km charity walk that aims to raise awareness of suicide and self-harm and fight the stigma that often prevents people from seeking help. The first walk took place in 2009 in Dublin, where over 400 people came together at 04:00 to walk from the darkness towards the dawn and show their solidarity with people who have been bereaved by suicide, who have experienced times of darkness or who are currently struggling.
Since then, this annual walk of hope has become a global movement, with more than 200,000 people having taken part in 203 venues across 21 countries and five continents in 2019 when, in Luxembourg, around 450 people participated.
