On Friday evening, a total of nine teams participated in the 3rd annual Nature Quiz organised by the English-speaking section of natur&ëmwelt at the Naturata in Munsbach, with the winners securing a tight contest on a tie-break.
The proceeds from the evening, i.e. the entry fees less the cost of prizes, totalled €230 which was subsequently donated to the Dudelange wild animal welfare and rescue centre.
In general, the questions were a bit more challenging than last year. The overall scores were a bit lower, but there was an incredibly tight finish. Out of a total maximum score of 70 points, the first five teams had 45, 45, 43, 42 and 42. The next three had 35, 33 and 32, leaving just one propping up the rear.
For the third time, there were new winners - this time an ad hoc team made up of two pairs and an individual, who clearly harmonised brilliantly on the night; they never met before last Friday. They beat Geoff Thompson's serial winners, The Watchers, on the tie-break.
There were a number of questions no-one got right: Björk in the music round; Alberta in the shapes; General Bradley in the Luxembourg round (every team said Patton); the ranking of the four main parties in last October's election; and what kind of domesticated animal a Polypay is (the best answer of the night was that a Polypay is an expensive parrot!).
