The Luxembourg Red Cross has committed itself to the global campaign for the protection of health services in conflict.
Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess, President of the Luxembourg Red Cross, paid a visit to the Red Cross teams during the preparation of an awareness and fundraising campaign for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which will be conducted in Luxembourg.
This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss with staff the issues and challenges that humanitarian teams face on the ground. The first of these issues is the non-respect of caregivers, infrastructure and the injured, on which the Grand Duchess commented: "As President of the Luxembourg Red Cross, this campaign is particularly close to my heart. Attacks on the sick, wounded and medical personnel constitute an intolerable violation of international humanitarian law and hinder the ability of humanitarian organisations to assist the most vulnerable."
Starting next Thursday and for several weeks, an ambulance covered in bullets, accompanied by a Red Cross team, will travel the country and meet people to spread awareness of these challenges and offer an opportunity to understand and discover the consequences that conflicts can have and support the action of the humanitarian organisation.
Other awareness-raising activities and appeals for donations to the ICRC will complete this awareness event, the theme of which is summarised by the hashtag #notatarget.
