Minister Romain Schneider;
The Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Action from Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has confirmed that, in response to the current humanitarian crisis in Yemen, Luxembourg today confirmed - at an international donor conference in Geneva - humanitarian aid amounting to €1,750,000 for 2018.
Luxembourg's aid will be implemented in collaboration with Luxembourg's humanitarian partners, namely the World Food Programme (WFP), the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (ICRC) and the NGO Handicap International Luxembourg (HIL). In addition, Luxembourg will contribute for the first time to the Joint Humanitarian Fund in Yemen, managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The Luxembourg government also provides an annual contribution to the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), which enables the UN to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches crisis-affected people as quickly as possible around the world.
For Romain Schneider, Luxembourg's Minister of Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, the primary objective of the contribution is to provide effective and predictable funding to humanitarian partners operating in Yemen while giving them maximum flexibility to meet the most urgent needs.
