On Saturday 26 September 2026, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) reported that production Unit 3 at the Cattenom nuclear power plant was shut down overnight as part of its annual maintenance programme.
According to the CGDIS, the shutdown, referred to as a “refuelling outage”, will allow one third of the fuel contained in the reactor to be replaced and approximately 4,500 inspection and maintenance operations to be carried out on the facility (valve maintenance, visual inspections of the reactor vessel and steam generators, etc.).
This is the final planned shutdown of the 2026 maintenance campaign at the Cattenom nuclear power plant.
Generation units 1 and 2 are operating and supplying the electricity grid, while unit 4 remains shut down for scheduled maintenance.
